“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2).
WE ARE CALLED TO GO AND MAKE disciples of all nations. In the above verse, we see how Paul is influencing the next generations as he prepares Timothy in ministry. Note the four generations: Paul, Timothy, faithful men, and others also. This is a command and admonition for all followers of Christ.
Influencing is a process of engaging in God’s mission to reach the world by equipping others to catalyze movements of evangelism and discipleship. This leadership of influence is directed towards the Kingdom work of God.
As we walk with the Lord, we discover that we cannot achieve Kingdom results in our strength. (The branch does not bear fruit by itself.) In fact, God doesn’t need us, but chooses to use us. Our focus needs to be on His glory and Kingdom, not on gaining recognition for ourselves. In Matthew 6:33 Jesus teaches, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” We need to be careful what we ask for because the Lord just may give it to us. And, if it is not His best for us, it can be an anchor around our neck.
A Kingdom perspective engenders an outward focus and a servant attitude rather than being competitive and possessive. It has a ministry focus of evangelism and discipleship and heartbeat that seeks to reach the next generations.
