“Say to God, ‘How awesome are Your works! Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will give feigned obedience to You. All the earth will worship You, and will sing praises to You; they will sing praises to Your name.’ Come and see the works of God, who is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men” (Psalm 66:3-5).
GOD IS AT WORK ALL AROUND US, if only we have eyes to see, ears to hear, and the right perspective. Our sensitivity to God at work flows directly from our intimacy and pursuit of God. His Spirit in me becomes my viewfinder and filter system. As we enter into the work of God, we begin to advertise God’s greatness and love.
Here are four principles that will help you grow in this discipline.
1. God wants to reveal His activity so that we can join and follow. God is forever calling and wooing us to Himself. He wants this intimate relationship more than we do, and He knows that it will be for our highest and greatest good.
2. Seeing God at work encourages and motivates us. It gives us hope. We recognize that we are not alone and, in fact, He is our strength and security. Hope flows from the truth that God goes before us, comes after us, and lays upon us (see Psalm 139:5).
3. God’s work inspires and challenges us to a greater prayer life. When we see the activity of God, we increase in our praise and worship of Him, which form the foundation of all prayer and petition. We cultivate the habit of praying without ceasing because we are so thankful for what is going on around us.
4. As we walk in faith, we will see God at work in every circumstance and situation. Life will become an adventure and it will lead to Christ and His power flowing through us.
