Dreaming in the Day

TO “DREAM IN THE DAY” is to be stirred and motivated by a passion and a positive future picture that will motivate you and your team. It does not mean “pie in the sky”; it does mean that your intended future is compelling and worth sacrificing for. It consumes your thinking.

A vision is a statement about what God wants to do in and through you. It can be personal or for an organization. God’s vision should resonate with all members of the organization and help them feel proud, excited, and part of something much bigger than themselves.

Vision comes from God and God alone. Leaders cast vision that has been received from the Lord. A vision should stretch your capabilities and your image of yourself. It gives shape and direction to the future. Visions range in length from a couple of words to several pages. Shorter vision statements are helpful because people will tend to remember their shorter organizational vision. What is God’s vision for your life? He wants to give His vision to you. He doesn’t plan to baptize yours.

“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, awake to find that it was vanity; But the dreamers of day are dangerous men, that they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible.” — T. E. Lawrence

“Many Christian leaders adopt the world’s approach to vision and miss out on God’s way. In seeking to serve the Lord, they inadvertently try to take on the responsibility of God. The truth is God is on mission to redeem humanity. He is the only one who knows how to do it. Leaders must understand, as Christ did, that their role is to seek the Father’s will and adjust their life to Him. Too often Christian leaders operate under a false sense of assurance that they are seeking God’s will. Being proactive by nature, leaders want to rush into action. As a result, they don’t spend enough time seeking to hear clearly from God. . . . Asking God to set one’s goals and to bless them doesn’t ensure that they are from God. Only God can reveal His plans and does so in His way, on His schedule, and to whom He wills.” — Henry Blackaby, Spiritual Leadership

The devotion above was taken from the 52-week Devotional entitled “Experiencing Christ as Life and Leader”.

Many give a mental assent to this teaching yet are often asking, “What do I do? What does Christ as life look like?“ Too often Christians err by moving too far to one side or the other—reducing the Christian life to a list of do’s and don’ts, or they actually do nothing.

These inspiring weekly devotions are just some of the actions that reflect the life of Christ in each of us, and they explore four areas as we follow the One Leader, Jesus Christ –

  • A Foundational Focus
  • A Personal Focus
  • A Relational Focus
  • A Missional Focus

Be challenged, encouraged, and spurred on to a deeper walk with Christ.
