Possessing Your New Identity in Christ

- The Latest Devotion from Leadership Revolution

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).

CHRIST’S LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE give me security, significance, and satisfaction. They are gifts offered to us, yet we must take hold of them, own them, and act upon them. We already possess the treasure of God’s blessing.

When my security is in Christ, we can focus on people and being present for them rather than being results-oriented or bottom-line driven. “In Christ” we are free from the bondage to our sins, among which pride is chief. His love and acceptance give us a security based on something outside of our abilities and nature.

Our worth and significance are found solely in Christ (who is forever and unchanging) and not in performance or in a position. Because of our worth in Christ, we are free from the opinions of others while still able to listen and learn from them. In this freedom from opinions, we can truly value, serve, and love others. We have everything that Christ had to live the Christian Life.

- There is nothing we can do to earn more of God’s love. There is nothing we can do to lose any of God’s love.

- We are fully righteous at all times, not on the basis of our work but because of Christ. Our identity and significance are never tied to performance, results, or outward behavior. We are significant because of who we are in Jesus Christ.

“Our culture tells us that our worth is determined by our accomplishments and encourages us to pursue significance and meaning through the things we do. Scripture tells us that our worth is determined by what Christ was willing to do for us, and that in Him we have an unlimited and unchanging source of meaning and purpose.

“Who we are in Christ is not shaped by what we do, but by what He did on the cross and continues to do in our lives. It is not performance that determines our identity; instead, our new identity in Jesus becomes the basis for what we do. If we perceive ourselves to be worthless or inadequate, this will be manifested in our behavior.

“We honor God when we allow Him to define us and tell us who we are regardless of our feelings or experiences to the contrary.” — Ken Boa

(Bruce’s Note: In 2021, Leadership Revolution is here to encourage and inspire you as a someone who desires to follow the One Leader, Jesus Christ. Twice a month, you’ll receive a new, brief devotional, and this first collection of devotions focuses on the foundational ideas and principles of following Jesus.)

Experiencing Christ as Life is the Heart of Our Walk with Jesus

This devotion was taken from the 52-week Devotional entitled “Experiencing Christ as Life and Leader”.

Many give a mental assent to this teaching yet are often asking, “What do I do? What does Christ as life look like?“ Too often Christians err by moving too far to one side or the other—reducing the Christian life to a list of do’s and don’ts, or they actually do nothing.

These inspiring weekly devotions are just some of the actions that reflect the life of Christ in each of us, and they explore four areas as we follow the One Leader, Jesus Christ –

  • A Foundational Focus
  • A Personal Focus
  • A Relational Focus
  • A Missional Focus

Be challenged, encouraged, and spurred on to a deeper walk with Christ.
